Les Joyeux Lurons

Daniel is a very special person - he’s full of enthusiasm and fun and we all enjoy his amusing anecdotes, of which he has many; the tales of his life in Morocco as a young man; and more recently his accounts of his travels abroad.  He has a keen interest in current affairs so we are encouraged to discuss many interesting topics.

All the members of our group, Les Joyeux Lurons, join to congratulate him on this very special occasion - his 80th Birthday on 12 May. Well done, Daniel on reaching this milestone and being able to get so much out of life. Enjoy all the years ahead - may you continue be happy and fulfilled, and above all have good health!

The Monday morning Italian group with Wendy and Vusi, African language teachers

Our small but enthusiastic Italian group, Le Cosmopolitane, met under Rhona’s famous fig tree on a lovely Monday morning.
We were introduced to two delightful teachers of African languages, Wendy and Vusi.
A fascinating discussion followed, which developed into an almost fully- fledged lecture on the history of African syllabic alphabet, African writing in general, and also the origins of mathematics. We felt quite enriched by the experience.

It was with profound sadness that we had to bid farewell to Susanne Kausch, a wonderful friend and enthusiastic and idealistic member of Lingo Links.

Co-founder of Les Coccinelles in 1999, she became convenor in 2003. She also helped create the Italian Gruppo Chiaccierone in 2002, and 3 months before her passing away, established Le Cosmopolitane which meets on Monday mornings.

At the time of the Festival, while she was in hospital in her home country, Switzerland, she was awarded a book of appreciation in absentia.

Susanne seldom missed a meeting, and her stories were always interesting, revealing her astounding

general knowledge, wide interests, originality and profound sense of humour.

As she could not drive, none of the enrichment she brought us would have been possible without Philipp, her eldest son and patient, devoted “taxi man”.

The picture above was taken at the last meeting she attended under the fig tree with the Coccinelles.

It was soon after her 71^st birthday.

We, Le Cosmopolitane, mourn the death of Susanne Kausch. it was a shock to us all. Through her initiative and enthusiasm, our new Italian conversation group came into

being just a few months ago. Her Italian was fluent and she encouraged us to communicate in the language, despite our initial hesitation. We feel we have already improved and will continue meeting every week in the spirit which she instilled in us. Our deep sympathy goes out to Susanne’s family and her many friends.
